Mesothelioma develops mainly in the lining around the abdomen, the lungs or heart, but unlike lung cancer which refers to a melignacy of the lung, mesothelioma is almostr always the result of exposure to asbestos.
Mesothelioma generaly does not appear until decades after the exposure and most people who develop mesothelioma have either worked on jobs where theyinhaled asbestos particles or have been exposed to asbestos dust or fibres in other ways, eg. by washing clothes of someone who worked with it.
